We should begin with two important terms:
- The terms “contextual” and “dynamic” underline our conviction that we are called to understand the times and the peoples of the world in their actual historic realities. Our service in the world should be informed and shaped by these realities and constitute a wise, Gospel response. We understand that zeal without understand is NOT good.
- Given this, we strongly value research, study, cultural intelligence, and the pursuit of holistic contextualization in every area of our work. Without these disciplines, long-term and deep level transformation is not likely.
A Prior Commitment and a Key Observation:
- With genuine and humble respect to long held ecclesial traditions and missionary methods, our first commitment is to a praxis that is faithful and effective as the Spirit leads today.
- The World today – The borderless world of the 21st century is a world in which people keep moving, especially to the cities and yet remain connected to everywhere. The triplet forces of diaspora phenomena are migration, urbanization and globalization and must be digested by all organizations who are serious about world mission today.
WHO ARE THE PEOPLE OF THE WORLD AND WHAT ARE THEIR LIVES LIKE?
The peoples and contexts of the world are unique, complicated, important, and dynamic. Moreover, they’re lives are marked more and more by the global realities of migration, urbanization and globalization.
